TRAC Raw Water Filter Flush Caps

While doing some research on Barnacle Buster verses RydLyme, I happened upon a product offered by TRAC Ecological Marine Products, the producer of Barnacle Buster: A "flush cap" designed to temporarily replace the cap on the Groco ARG raw water strainer that is often used. We have 3: Engine, A/C System; and, Generator, that I routinely flush each year to remove debris and any "growies" that might have taken hold.

The Cap:

With one of these, I was able to back-flush the raw water system on our air Conditioner very easily by simply replacing the cap and attaching a short length of hose led to a bucket and disconnecting the discharge side of the system, on which I have common garden hose connectors and connecting up our dock-side water hose to backwash the heat exchanger coils and then, when the water ran clear (finally), replacing dock side hose with a short length of hose attached to a small submersible bilge pump placed in the bucket together with a 4:1 solution of Barnacle Buster and fresh water and recirculating that for 2 hours or so. When I began the process there were a couple of small barnacles visible on the side of the glass cylinder of the raw water filter but quite shortly after beginning they were gone. The cap made the job very easy compared with the contortions the effort took in prior years and I thought others might like to know.

FWIW...
