I bought one of these new with the intention of running
Open CPN.
It looked great from its specs. Had excellent
battery life; nice form factor etc.....
However, the built in
gps does not exist in the Australian supplied models. This machine gets its great
battery life because it runs on an AMD chipset and not intel. Apparently it is the only one in the Surface range that does this. It has a "special" version of windows that my oeSENC maps didn't like. Very laggy.
Probably a good machine for a bussines man on the go, but for using it on your
boat with
Open CPN I would not reommend it.
I ended up returning it to the retailer and they gave me a full refund, on the basis of not being suitable for my intended application, despite what their salesman said when he
sold it to me.
