Rocna anchors; where are they made?
Ahoy all, I am purchasing a new anchor and have conflicting info as to where the Rocna anchors are made. Some say Canada others say China. I know that the company is called Canada Metals but they manufacture in China and Canada. Where are Rocna's made?

Re: Rocna anchors; where are they made?
They were originally made in new Zealand the later ones were made in china, I heard rumours of them having problems with the Chinese made ones? so they may have changed were they are manufactured now

Re: Rocna anchors; where are they made?
Originally New Zealand, then China, problems with lower grade metal used for the shaft, purchased by Canada Metals, production remained in China with improved QC.
Canada Metals is pretty well respected and makes a number of marine products including OEM AP drives for some well known companies.

Re: Rocna anchors; where are they made?
We spent some time with Peter Smith, the inventor of Rocna, in Namibia a few years ago. He said the problem with poor anchors from China was that they were casting the anchors rather than welding them up from plate steel.

A Rocna saved our bacon a few days ago here in Dominica. Let no-one tell you you don't get strong westerlies in the Caribbean!
If you wish, you can read about in The Sailboat Cruiser...

Re: Rocna anchors; where are they made?
We purchased a Vulcan about 6 months ago. We've set anchor about 6 times now and after our last time when we pulled up our Rocna, it looked like this! We anchored in Marigot Bay St. Martin. In sand and winds always under 25 to 30 knots.
We have filed a claim through Budget Marine but have heard nothing back from Rocna in close to a month. We'd like to go back to the regular Rocna but if we hear nothing from them we may be looking for a new anchor manufacturer.

Big question is 'did it let go or drag' or 'did it hold'??. You see a lot of Rocna anchors hanging on bows, and claims that they are the best anchor made.

It held fine. I would of expected it to in such light winds. But should it of bent so bad with light winds? I don't think so. Several other boats around in the same conditions and no bent anchors. Has to make you think that newly designed Vulcan has a design flaws or cheaper manufacturing techniques that produce a sub-standard anchor. I know I won't buy another Vulcan!

Thanks for the contact info. My next effort will be to try and contact them directly. I do know that Budget Marine did contact them and have tried follow up emails to them but again no response back!

Re: Rocna anchors; where are they made?
When you put a side load on an anchor that can't turn, hooked on a rock, a good anchor will bend, a bad anchor will break.

Nice to hear that it did hold. Good luck, with the contact. It's just another example of a farmed out, cheap off shore (PRC scrap) mfr product. I firmly believe in buying NA made equipment if at all possible. But, it's getting harder to do!!
