problems with Aqua Air Chillers

Can anybody tell me if they've had problems with Aqua Air Chilled water Air conditioning systems? I've heard the condensing coils are made of cheap metals and don't last more than a year and a half at about $11,000 per 5 ton unit

Re: problems with Aqua Air Chillers

Welcome 747 and sorry I don't have an answer but I'll be watching as I believe I will be needing to swap out 2 units. Maybe this will help me take them off or leave them on the list of contenders!

Theyre junk. I had to replace two of them already in a three year period. Condenser coil fails because they are poor quality metal. Looking for a new manufacturer

Thanks for that input, I'll cross them off the list!

Re: problems with Aqua Air Chillers

While not cheap we've had very good luck with both Climma Chillers and Cruisair models. They are well supported (Climma more in Europe and Cruisair in the US), but both very good gear.

I have heard that Flagship Marine makes a very good chiller using US made cooper nickel tubing. Their website says that they are used by the navy.

Flagship makes a range of products; check on their warranty; last time I checked they don't provide any compensation to service in the field so if something breaks you have to ship it back to them. This has proved a problem to me on several of their DX systems. In factory warranty service isn't worth much to most boaters... we only sell systems that provide warranty service aboard your boat by authorized dealers.

More good insight, something to think about with all providers. Thanks Scott!

Re: problems with Aqua Air Chillers

Need to add to this; we've now worked on two out of warranty Flagship Chillers. In both cases it was simple repair work associated with the installed plumbing in one case and a poorly designed mounting in the other. We had a chance to look at the units carefully and have decided to carry them as a high quality option in the future. They are very well though out, easy to work on (no proprietary parts), and show very high construction standards and material choices. We just spec'd one for a client and it looks to be a great solution for their trawler.
