Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, June.

Edward William doesn’t have a very high repute.

We have represented Edward William and in turn Northern Reef here in Australia for the past eighteen months.
To date all dealings have been compelely professional with policy documents issued on time every time.
We have one claim in the pipe line and so far it is progressing well.
We had another claim that was correctly repuidated as the owner was attempting a rip off after a simple touch and go grounding.

Derick,
We were insured by Northern Reef but changed when we could not document where they were legitimately registered with appropriate financial or insurance regulators or where they were re-insured.

Would you be kind enough to supply that information with appropriate commercial ratings that are standard for insurance companies world wide.

June,
I just sent you a PM. But Derrick's attitude

about their insured should just about answer all your questions about their reputation with clients.

If anyone else out there who has questions about ratings and reputations of insurance companies, feel free to send me a PM.

Best Regards,

Indeed.
It appears that Edward William (agent) and Northernreef (re-insurer) may be a scam.

A scam?! What, with perfectly executed paperwork? Why, shades of Scott Rothstein (sentenced yesterday to 50 years max) that could involve forgery and counterfeiting too.

I've always thought that in a competitive industry like insurance, it shouldn't be impossible to get similar quotes for similar products from different vendors, and be able to find at least one with good reviews, ratings, or reputation.

Heck, even with auto insurance there are always folks running scams, brokers not remitting premiums, bogus companies...and that's a highly regulated industry in the US.

Hmmm.

This got me thinking maybe we better do a little background checking on our own insurance company. Anyone dealt with Markel American out of Glen Allen, VA - underwritten by Anchor Marine out of Seattle, WA?

Markel is solid. They underwrite the IMIS jackline policy that is popular with cruising boats. TabbyCat here can provide a lot of information on them.

Markel's about as good as it gets when it comes to claims. The company has become quite selective about who/what it covers but if you can get a policy, you can rely on the coverage.

FWIW...

Question Derick Warne

Derick, I am really nervous insuring with Edward Willaim/Nothern Reef. How many policies have you signed up in Australia and how many claims have there been. You mention 2. I am beginning to think this could be a scam, please prove me wrong. I need to insure my boat but need a reputable company to take my money.

Along this same line, has anyone had experience with Chartis/Mariners/Global Marine?
