lost both furlers in Hurrianes Irma and Maria

I need to replace both a jib and staysail furlers on my 1979 Shannon 38. My Harkens were damaged during the 2 storms and I want to replace them with slightly oversized replacements. My criteria are dependability, quality of construction, ease of use. I am not looking to convert to a "more modern" approach to furling unless there is a distinct advantage to doing so. I am not a recer but do cross oceans. I would love to have the ideas of what is out there that will serve my need.

Probably the best furler every made is the Harken Unit 2 MKI and MKII.

Currently the best is probably the Schaefer but also the most expensive.

A profurl LC-42 and NC-32 (staysail)are probably the way to go for you boat. Shannon 38? As it’s be close to $2,000 more for the Schaefers

You might check out Reef Rite in New Zealand. They used off the shelf, readily replaced bearings. Also had a furler lock. We had one once, and liked it. No connection with the company.

If you want to save installation costs take a look at the Harken ESP units. I installed one (by myself) for my staysail in one morning.
