Keel Stepped Mast Boot

Can someone tell me who sells mast boots for keel stepped masts. Looked everywhere with no results. Perhaps they are called something different. Thanks

Consider SparTite. We had wedges that leaked like a sieve no matter what we tried. Took a breath and a chance and switched to Spartite. Not a drop since. (Deepening on your setup, you might need more modeling clay that they provide to dam up the underside.)

Re: Keel Stepped Mast Boot

I've used both the SSI mast boot and the self amalgamating mast boot tape. The tape has actually lasted longer. The last SSI boot I got tore easily unlike the one I bought 20+ years ago.

Re: Keel Stepped Mast Boot

The mast to deck seal is only part of the problem for a keel stepped mast with internal halyards. A significant amount of rain/sea/wash water flows inside the mast to the mast step. I formed a path for this water to flow into a small part of the bilge where I now have an automatic bilge pump. Now, except for rare circumstances, the main bilge is completely dry.

Re: Keel Stepped Mast Boot

couldn't find a commercial boot big enough for my mast so i made one out of a truck tire inner tube. covered it with left over material from the guy who made my bimini top so the colors matched. lasted the ten years i owned the boat.

Most any marine dealer. Biggies like West, Defender, etc. Called "Mast Boot" and one size fits all, you just cut them as required. We replaced ours a few months ago with the spare we carried.

Nice case of creatively doing with what you have. Weird though, you couldn't find a big enough one for the CSY37. I'm sure our Morgan 46 must have the same or larger diameter mainmast and the new one fit with at least an inch overlap at the seam.

Re: Keel Stepped Mast Boot

waterman46 -

it was a commercial boot i bought at either worst marine or defenders - can't remember it was so long ago. the biggest one they made.

the csy 37 probably does not have a fatter mast than yours, but it has a small 'pedestal' at the base. kind of a built up fiberglass 'mountig block' - wish i had a picture - that reinforces the deck in that area. it sits above the deck about three or four inches. that's the part that the boot would not fit around.

Truck tire inner tube, contact cement, sealant, sunbrella outer cover.
