Re: Good Surveyors - Hard to Find?

Was newt's idea ever put into action? I am in the process of looking at boats in Florida and could use the names of some recommended surveyors. Tampa/St Pete area particularly but anywhere will do if there are some highly recommended ones.

Should be re-Titled...

Good Surveyors - - Good to Find.

The meanest surveyor, is the boat owners, best friend.

Period.

Re: Want a good surveyor?

Thanks for suggestion of Paul Anstey. His website seems to indicate he only covers SW Florida. Good to know he covers the state. I need a pre-purchase in Miami.

Re: Good Surveyors - Hard to Find?

Can anyone recommend a "deal killer" type surveyor in Massachusetts?

I put an offer in on a 1979 Pearson 30, not really expecting it to be accepted...Surprise!

Not scared of some work and repairs (I understand it is nearly 40 years old), but I want the pleasant surprise of my offer being accepted to be the last surprise I get from the boat, for a while...

This is my first boat purchase, and having someone who knows what they're seeingis important to me...

Re: Good Surveyors - Hard to Find?

I would suggest that you open a new thread, with a title of something like "surveyor recommendations in Mass."

Good luck.

PS, I do not get a kickback nor even a free survey on my next boat for the recommendation. In fact since it has been 20 years since I left the business he probably doesn't even remember who I am.
Hi Skipmac,

I'm looking for a real sharp and detail orientated surveyor in South Flordia, care to share the name of your guy?

Thanks,

Matt

We are all ready to name names of the bad actors.
Let's name the good ones.

Unfortunately I think he has retired. You can give him a call to confirm but if he is I'll bet he could recommend someone.

Please post back if you learn anything.

Re: Good Surveyors - Hard to Find?

Most places not hard to find a good surveyor with a little research. The problem is it is easy to find a not so great one particularly if there is something specific about the boat like metal hull or some other build or rigging issue that a specific surveyor is not all that familiar with. Same goes for engines not all mechanics are familiar with all makes.

Re: Good Surveyors - Hard to Find?

I am seeking a surveyor working in the southern Aegean (Patmos, Leros, Kalymnos, Kos) for an out-of-the-water survey for insurance purposes. As earlier posts on this thread have pointed out, whether or not the toilets flush ( they do, by the way ) is not of particular interest. The insurance companies want to know whether the boat is seaworthy, and a reasonable estimate of its value. Any assistance in finding one or two possible candidates would be greatly appreciated.

Had two very bad experiences with Firestone. Made me think he can be bought. Bribe is such an ugly word.
