I can't find any identifying marks on my pedestal, but it does have a tapered shaft. I took the Lewmar hub to a couple of metal fabricators, but no one seems willing to try to enlarge it. It's a solid hunk of stainless, so there's no way I can enlarge it myself with a file.
I think we are looking for similar solutions, and have similar problems. The South African websites I've searched have no info and there are no identifying marks on the wheel we have. We don't just want a smaller wheel or folding wheel for while at anchor - we need it for while we are sailing too. Given that we are now in port for a few weeks we have removed it for now and I know it will be hard to get used to it once it's back in position.

Re: Folding Helms Wheel

The standard lewmar folding wheel as standard is shaped for lewmar shafts

There is a “ double boss” version designed for standard 1” shafts.
