Today I called to place an order with Defender (their web site e-commerce system was inoperative) and was informed that they no longer offer splicing services.
I can do my own splices but it's time consuming and I don't think I'm ever going to be as neat and tidy about it as the riggers who do it all the time. I am, in particular, happy to pay someone else $20 to make an eye splice in double braid. I am even happier to pay someone else to make a splice in core-dependent
rope which I only use for halyards and will never splice often enough to get good at.
The availability of splicing
service was one of the things that kept me going back there.
Neither Fisheries Supply nor Jamestown Distributors offer splicing services.
I guess it's just West
Marine now. Either that or I have to get good.
Unless someone else has found a
rigging place they like that ships out...?
