Corian counters

Anyone installed Corian counters? I understand you cannot buy the material, it has to be done by an installer.
Thanks,
Bob

Re: Corian counters

Bob, I built one and remember I ordered samples and later a whole sheet from homedepot. Made a plywood template first and then epoxied a 1/4 inch thick corian countertop on the original (cracked) countertop. Took a while to get it right, but looks great.

Re: Corian counters

How long ago was that? I can't get any info on sheets on the HD site. I guess I'll have to stop at the store and ask.
Thanks,
Bob

Re: Corian counters

I built counter tops for my old boat, bought material at https://www.solidsurface.com/

They have everything you need, Corian and other brands, glue, tools etc.

Cheers

Hmmmm as someone facing this task soon—— Can you form fiddles from it?

Re: Corian counters

I guess so, as long as they are straight. Corian breaks when bent.

Re: Corian counters

Many years ago did a counter with a sink. Sourced the Corian as scrap from a local installer. Price was very reasonable.

Re: Corian counters

Corian is great stuff. Not only can you have decent fiddles, you can have one-piece integrated sinks, draining boards, and even different colours inset. I had Westerly make my boat with Corian throughout.

If you want it relatively simple though, there are a large number of composite stone copies around most of which are just as good. Much cheaper too. Best plan is to make precise hardboard or plywood templates and take them into somewhere to have them made up. On a boat you want them as thin as you possibly can, probably backed onto epoxy-soaked marine ply. Otherwise they weigh a ton.
