Re: Bottom Paint: Pettit Trinidad 75 vs. PPG ABC3
I have absolutely no problem when you recommend something. I do have a problem when you denigrate ALL the various products of a major manufacturer, without any qualification or evidence. Or, when you assert that anybody who doesn’t agree with you peculiar opinions on environmental issues "deserves what they get."

I think it got his dander up when you made such a strong claim without offering any substantiation and then when he objected your response was that since you have so much knowledge and experience that we're all dumb if we don't just accept whatever you say.
There is the not so subtle sarcasm and arrogance in just about all of your responses which rubs people the wrong way. I know a lot about that because my comments rub people the wrong way a lot also. I'm working on it.
I will add that my diver is courteous and respectful, and I enjoy having a conversation with him. That's who I want to deal with for getting work done on my boat.

I find it amusing that you and your boyfriend get your panties all in a bunch when I offer an opinion (and that's all it was), and then try to denigrate me for not providing "proof," "evidence," or "substantiation" of that opinion. As if either of you hold yourselves or anybody else to that standard. I think it's clear that you don't even understand the definition of the word. I am not here to make friends or to gain customers. So imagine how much sleep I'm going to lose over either of you not liking me or what I have to say about Sherwin Williams anti fouling paint products.
And BTW- Sherwin Williams produces five anti fouling paints (not whatever ridiculous, erroneous number Bycrick claims) and I have extensive professional experience with at least three of them. I guess I don't need to reiterate my feelings about them.

Once upon a time, I was considered a subject matter expert. I suspect I’d have been far less successful if I’d taken the attitude "I don’t need to have any evidence, just trust me. After all, I’m smarter than you are."

You couldn't even research the basis of your argument with any accuracy before coming here and publicly slamming me. I couldn't care less about your indignation.

I'd say it is good you are not here to make friends or gain customers, you might add, "or to influence people's choice in bottom paints." because you're failing at all three.
We're all learning what kind of guy you are, and in my opinion, it ain't pretty.
BTW, I offer opinions freely, but I try to offer substantation, and If I haven't I don't mind someone pointing it out to me, and in that case I'll give what I can to explain my views. It's called being mutually respectful, as opposed to arrogant.

Re: Bottom Paint: Pettit Trinidad 75 vs. PPG ABC3
When I went to the SW website, I wasn’t writing a research paper or a legal brief. They make several different paints, in different formulae, each in multiple colors. Whether there are four or twenty four (depending on exactly how one counts "different " paints, you blithely lumped them all into "they’re the worst." That’ appears to be an overly broad generalization. When questioned about "why," or under what conditions SW paints are the "worst," we got told only that you’re an "expert" and that you "know" what the right answers are and that "shockingly" there are people who don’t believe or agree with you. I can see why they might not and am not a bit shocked.

In addition to looking up the meaning of the word "opinion," I suggest you do the same for the word "hypocrite."
Unbelievable.

Re: Bottom Paint: Pettit Trinidad 75 vs. PPG ABC3
You never even intimated that you statement was an "opinion." It was stated as if it were an irrefutable fact. Your unsupported opinions are worth precisely what anybody else's unsupported opinions are worth: precisely nothing. Just because you fancy yourself as an "expert" or "professional" doesn’t change that.

Re: Bottom Paint: Pettit Trinidad 75 vs. PPG ABC3
I used Interlux CRC, Micron 66 and ABC3. The ABC3 performed at least as well as the 66 and better than the CRC and for quite a bit less money. I get 3 seasons (haul out over the summer) in Mexico West coast. Never tried Petit but I am told their hard type does a good job down there as well. Divers tell me that black tends to foul less but then perhaps it is just not that visible on the black.

We buy Trinidad. It works and if there's a problem, they stand by their products.

Re: Bottom Paint: Pettit Trinidad 75 vs. PPG ABC3
We're happy with Trinidad SR. We get the green slime in the USVI and red algae. In very bioactive Coral Bay St. John, we don't get much hard growth. In Grenada for the summer we are seeing some hard growth and cleaning monthly; thankfully no red algae here. Next summer we are going to bite the bullet and have all of the old bottom paint removed from our 2003 boat, new barrier coat, and Trinidad again. Likely the Trinidad SR.
Cheers, RickG

In my experience ( 50+ years) nothing matches Coppercoat for effectiveness and longevity ( 10 years ++)

Re: Bottom Paint: Pettit Trinidad 75 vs. PPG ABC3
I've thought about going the Coppercoat route, but for some reason I get the feeling like it will be applied wrong by the boatyards here. Also, it isn't red, so thats a no for me.
