Question Best Outboard Motor Lock

I had a real scare. My boat motor was stolen...or so it seemed. Well....I got it back. When I bought my boat it had an old evinrude that only ran in high gear. So while I was having the bottom of my boat painted i went over to the shop on site that does engine repair. Explained to him about the motor. It was a Thursday. He said he wouldn't get to it till mon or tues....well a month goes by and i never heard from him so i bought a new motor....couple weeks later my motor is stolen! Turns out....he took it...on a sat night! I reported it stolen but then on monday when the marina was open again i told the dockmaster i just had to be sure this guy didn't have it....and as i said...he did....i said to him....didn't you even realize you were taking a Nissan and not an Evinrude....he says....yeah but i figured you didn't know what you had! Grrrrr.

Well....i got free dock rent for my troubles and now i am looking for the best lock....funny they all claim to be the best

I have not used this one but it looks very promising:

LED lighting, soundproof, Sailor's Solutions Inc.

A note of caution as it apprarantly does NOT fir certain Nissan motors. See sailors solutions.

That is actually the one i thought looked pretty good. Someone told me if thieves want to steal your motor they will, but a beefy looking lock will be a good deterent. they will take the motor without the lock before going thru the trouble of cutting a lock off

I also saw this:Q-lok Motor Locks but dont know anythign about it. Right now I'm using one of these:

Its ok but I have to keep it oiled well or it will rust quickly. You are right that if they want it they will take it but some sort of lock at least prevents the most petty criminals and makes them have to work for it.

Wonder if two of these would really increase the frustration factor for the thieve and cause him to move elsewhere (or cut the transom).

I think any thief interested in dealing with that lock would just take the whole dinghy motor and all so probably not adding much deterrent with a second lock.
