Best Large Sturdy Waterproof Container

Anyone got suggestions for large sturdy waterproof containers- i am looking for something to store bulky items (spare parts, seldom used tools, etc. ) in -- the area that i have to store them will be out of the weather and sun but not in itself completely watertight so i would like something to go on the shelving in this area of the boat that will serve. Another anticipated use would be to store large bulk amount of dog food for our Rhodesian Ridgeback -- space it not too critical as i have a large storage area on the boat that i will be building shelving for. i am thinking that max size for each container would be somewhere around the size of a 5 gallon bucket. rectangular rather than round is preffered or i would just use the 5 gal watertight buckets that swimming pool chemicals come in- anyone out there have any good ideas? sturdy handles and simple locking lids are a big plus

I’m a Uline shopper. They have everything, including rectangular 5 gallon buckets

There are very sturdy tight dog food containers. I use them to store grain, buy them on Amazon.

Large Sturdy Waterproof Container ???

sounds like a shipping container to me! Kinda hard to get down the companionway, though...

May want to consider one of the larger good quality coolers since you could get double duty out of it. Yeti or similar, but not cheap.

2nd the vittles vault option here. Good, sturdy, O-ring sealed lid and available in all sizes and configurations. Also rectangular so as not to waste space. For some of the smaller stuff (electronics, etc) I use Pelican as they offer a lifetime warranty and all their products are great. Expensive, but if you look on E-bay people sell them all the time for 50%. Harbor Tool has knockoff pelicans for less than half and the seem pretty sturdy.

I use Rubbermaid Action Packers. I kept one outside for over 2 years, no problem. Not 100% waterproof, but extremely rugged and secure. Stand on top of one, no problem at all. Comes in a few, mostly large, sizes.

Re: Best Large Sturdy Waterproof Container

How about re-using the watertight plastic bins that your offshore flare packs come in - so you get one every 3 years.

They would be about the right size.

Reusable shipping containers. We have them custom made in various materials. I personally like them made from FRP. These are the containers the traveling music industry used for expensive electrics. At the very low end use food storage buckets or a simple plastic bucket from Walmart. Often overlooked are ammunition boxes sold a surplus stores, the real military surplus ones are very weather resistant and come in various sizes. I actually use them on a trailer for tie-down chain storage. Cheap and weather tolerant!

I use ice chests for solid water tight storage. Hold over from power boat days when we had several on deck to store lines and life jackets. Just picked up a 150 qt. to go up forward of the mast. Nice enough to sit on and sturdy enough to stand on. Marine grade with stainless hinges.
