Beckson Port Lights (Gasket Replacement)

I recently installed several new Beckon port lights. After discovering one missing gasket, I ordered a replacement. I could install a port light in under an hour, replacement of the gasket is almost impossible.

Has anyone had issues with these port lights? This is a very poor design. I wish I had done a bit more research before buying these.

I replaced all the port lights gaskets on my boat two years ago. I dunked the gaskets in a mixture of dishwasher soap and water. The first I tried dry, it's impossible. With water only it works too, but it went much easier once I added a bit of soap.

Are you sure you purchased the correct size? I've replaced several last year and they all went in pretty easily. just have to anchor one corner with a thumb so it doesn't want to fall out until you get it all in and there is a bit of tension on the gasket. My 9 year old daughter installed a couple up in the V-berth by herself.

Yeah, it's time consuming and tedious. We did two of our eight last year when we replaced the screens (30 years old). "Have patience, my friend," a beer or two for purely medicinal reasons (i.e., your thumb!!!) never hurts - makes time fly by.

Otherwise, the ports are just great. I like them better than the reports about "Leaky Lewmars."

Oh, and reread the RTFM, too. Never hurts. Make sure the channels are clean, clean, clean.

The soapy water worked. Thanks! I also think that after working with the gasket for "hours' it became more malleable. I am still not impressed with the port lights, but they look fine and now it's done.

Was not the wrong size, but the gasket was very difficult to work with. I am not certain of the issue, maybe a different size than yours. The gasket did eventually go in.
