Inside the US there are Coast Pilots, for the rest of the world there are Sailing Directions. These are detailed
books produced by the US
government describing bays, harbors, etc. for ships. It shows
charts needed and so on.

Cruise Guides. Yacht type, lots of pictures, covers many smaller
anchorages and
marinas. I believe there are two. One for the inside to
Alaska and another for the outside of
Vancouver Island. I know they are on Amazon.
