Re: Why Can't People Wear Masks Properly

On Wednesday, California's Governor Gavin Newsom announced that everyone in the state will now be required to wear face masks in public.

The order seeks to prevent those infected with coronavirus — but not showing symptoms — from spreading it, according to the California Department of Public Health.

Specifically, Californians must wear masks in these circumstances:

-Inside of, or in line to enter, any indoor public space
-Waiting for or riding on public transportation
-Engaged in work, whether at the workplace or performing work off-site (with exceptions noted below)
-While outdoors in public spaces and less that 6 feet from others (exceptions below)

The fine print requirements of the order include wearing masks in the following places:

-Inside of, or in line to enter, any indoor public space; Obtaining services from the healthcare sector in settings including, but not limited to, a hospital, pharmacy, medical clinic, laboratory, physician or dental office, veterinary clinic, or blood bank;

-Waiting for or riding on public transportation or paratransit or while in a taxi, private car service, or ride-sharing vehicle;

– While engaged in work, whether at the workplace or performing work off-site, when:
a. Interacting in-person with any member of the public;
b. Working in any space visited by members of the public, regardless of whether anyone from the public is present at the time;
c. Working in any space where food is prepared or packaged for sale or distribution to others;
d. Working in or walking through common areas, such as hallways, stairways, elevators, and parking facilities;
e. In any room or enclosed area where other people (except for members of the person’s own household or residence) are present when unable to physically distance.
f. Driving or operating any public transportation or paratransit vehicle, taxi, or private car service or ride-sharing vehicle when passengers are present. When no passengers are present, face coverings are strongly recommended.

-While outdoors in public spaces when maintaining a physical distance of six feet from persons who are not members of the same household or residence is not feasible.

The following individuals are exempt from wearing a face covering:

-Children aged two and under
-Persons with a medical, mental health, or developmental disability that prevents wearing a face covering
-Persons who are hearing impaired, or communicating with a person who is hearing impaired, where the ability to see the mouth is essential for communication
-Persons for whom wearing a face covering would create a risk to the person related to their work, as determined by local, state, or federal regulators or workplace safety guidelines
-Persons who are obtaining a service involving the nose or face for which temporary removal of the face covering is necessary to perform the service
-Persons who are seated at a restaurant or other establishment that offers food or beverage service, while they are eating or drinking, provided that they are able to maintain a distance of at least six feet away from persons who are not members of the same household or residence
-Persons who are engaged in outdoor work or recreation such as swimming, walking, hiking, bicycling, or running, when alone or with household members, and when they are able to maintain a distance of at least six feet from others
-Persons who are incarcerated. Prisons and jails, as part of their mitigation plans, will have specific guidance on the wearing of face coverings of masks for both inmates and staff.

So masks on non sympathetic people will “save lives”? Huh

Also I’d wager the cops will be Johnny on the spot to shut down business and arrest folks who don’t go along with this silliness, same cops who smile and wave at the looters, arsonists and folks who disrupt life with these “protests”.

Welcome to clown world.

That enough for you?

Simi, That's an interesting article thanks, but it does not fully support your comment. It actually says around 130 million native people died across the entire Americas (Western Hemisphere) as the result of colonisation, and up to 95% from disease.

We're now the ones facing a new disease. We're now the "new natives". Some (mainly US) folk in this thread still seem to find it hard to accept that the disease is serious. We only don't know just how serious. But if this iteration doesn't get the doubters who refuse to learn the lessons and take proper precautions, then maybe one of the next iterations might?

The only wise answer is to be VERY rigorous. Unfortunately past generations of natives could not be ... hence the 95% or so of 130 million.

Re: Why Can't People Wear Masks Properly

I bet one of my boats that Covid infection numbers around Oklahoma spike massively over the next 14 days, hospitalisation rates and death rates also spike up in the days thereafter.

The purpose of the offer is to help disprove the doubts, hoepfully using something measureable.

Any takers?

(Disclosure - I'm only offering the plastic canoe)

Seeing how liberal the guidelines are to code a death as a covid, meh

People have literally been hit and killed by cars and marked as a covid death.

Betcha this whole thing goes away no matter what from the news after November.

Where did you get that from?

The US has done wrong in history, no doubt, “patriot act”, people abused hundreds of years ago during the making of the railroads, etc.

But comparing the US to china historically or currently is laughable.
I know it’s trendy to hate on America, I had that greenday album as a child too, then I grew up, but I’m guessing you’re not a rich white teen living in the burbs, anyone with life experience and any travel under their belt should know better.

Yes, it is unbelievable. He's only out by an order of magnitude, even if you believe his reference link which gives 76, not 706 million
