Urgent Assistance To Find Missing Australian Yacht

From the Island Cruising Association

FAMILY SEEKING HELP TO LOCATE MISSING YACHTSMAN
Facebook user Melz Shaw , has sent us this message and ask us to share it.
If you know anything about the whereabouts of this vessel and its captain please either leave a comment on this post , or send us a message via Facebook and we will pass it onto Melz .
We also have Melz email address and can provide it on request . Melz message is this ;
My dad is missing somewhere in the Pacific ocean between Australia and Fiji. He's been out there for about 5 weeks now. He is not in Australian waters as our search and rescue have checked.
What I ask is that if you could put the word out to anyone travelling through those ways to keep an eye open for him. He's 78 yrs old, his boat is called Mahi and it's a 36 foot yacht with blue hull.
If you could do this I would be great full as we are doubtful of how much food and water he has on board.
Regards
Melz

yeah, there's absolutely nothing to google on it. Nothing comes up. Not the boat nor the missing Australian.

RC,

If you think it's genuine, perhaps you can find out what kind of boat, name of skipper, etc., from MARSA, if they have been involved, as the post suggests.

Like I said before, there's a new Bermuda Triangle that stretches from the east coast of Australia over to New Zealand, and then north. It all began with Kaz II, yet there are probably many more that we have yet to hear about. The aliens eventually got tired of the mid-Atlantic. Nothing more for them to learn there.

Re: Urgent Assistance To Find Missing Australian Yacht

Ok, I believe it's legitamate. Certainly havn't heard anything to the contrary. I've corresponded via email with his daugther who is in Australia.

Her father is 78 years of age Les Shaw. It is believed he left Moreton Bay Queensland, on or about the 30th July to return to Fiji where he now lives. Family in Australia presumed he had arrived home but then last week his girl friend from Fiji rang family here asking about after him as they had not seen him arrive back yet.

They immediately alerted authorities in Australia and Fiji. He's now listed as missing. The Fijian navy is out looking for him and Australia's Search and Rescue has been looking from this end.

His vessel is a blue hulled vessel called Mahi and is heavily laddend as he was returning to Fiji with the rest of his belongins.

I wonder if Mr. Shaw was sailing solo? What type of communication equipment did he have onboard, VHF,SSB, SatPhone, EPIRB, etc. Did he have a float plan to contact family or friends along the way?

Sounds like a legit request for help, wish I could and hope those that can do. Dissecting it serves no purpose.

A blue hull. That won't make searching any easier. I hope the gent is ok.

Re: Urgent Assistance To Find Missing Australian Yacht

There were westerlies off Brisbane in that time frame, which would have given him a leg up on that long, generally upwind, voyage.

He should have passed south of here, but we'll be going into Noumea soon, and we can have a look around. Haven't seen anything like the description of the boat, here, so far.

It's a big world, and a small boat to find.

It may help to know if he has an AIS transponder, and if so, what is his MMSI number?

Not to be flippant and I certainly pray this all turns out well, but 78 years old, sailing out, and a girlfriend to boot? That's the way I'd like it.

Yep, God bless him, me too. I hope my assessment is wrong.
