Uesful, Possibly Esential, Books for Cruisers

I was looking through my bookshelf today, a bit bored whilst waiting for a new prop shaft ( another story). I seldom notice these books except when I really need them.

If you are cruising these two books can stand you great stead, The Merck Manual and Mansons Tropical Disease

The Merck Manual is available on line at THE MERCK MANUAL MEDICAL LIBRARY: The Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy but a hard copy is well worth having. Even if you have little or no medical training you will find them very useful. The tropical diseases book has great sections on prevention as well as cure.

I've found that the "Where there is no Doctor/Dentist" series a valuable asses along with Merck. Another is "The Ship Captain's Medical Manual", a hard bound book that has some good info in it as well.
