My brother has a friend who works at Amazon's offices in
Seattle and reports that there is increasing dissatisfaction among the employees with Amazon's practices. The company's outsize profits are built on the premise that direct customer
service is not necessary - just try to contact a real person at Amazon when things go wrong. But it is worse than that: the search function is intentionally not working the way you expect (it is working to show items they want to sell you). Try showing search results by lowest
price first and you will find that things are out of order. Famously two different people looking at the same product at the same time might be shown different prices - based on the
history of the customers' behavior. Amazon is perfecting the manipulation of its customers. I try to avoid them but it is difficult. And it is hard to beat them as their contracts with Marketplace suppliers prohibits them from selling at a lower
price elsewhere, and since Amazon takes a big cut that means the prices for all of us are higher than they should be with fair competition. If you think you are being screwed, you are.
