Spiders and bugs

My boat is on a mooring in Spa Creek in Annapolis. Last year it was a duck nesting in the cockpit. This year is is spiders who have invaded my transom and cockpit. There are broken webs wit lots of dead black flies streaming about. I know I can get rid of them with an insecticide. The problem I have is green spots all over the gel coat that are difficult to remove. I assume these come from the insects but they are not necessarily under the spider webs. Has anyone else seen this and what have you done about it?

Re: Spiders and bugs

The green spots causes me to believe that these are seasonal swarms of aquatic midges that are often called "blind mosquitos". Ironically, the best cleaning solution seems to be the spray bottle product called "Green Stuff".

Re: Spiders and bugs

buy some peppermint oil and mix in a fine mist spray bottle. spray that all over your cockpit. Helps repel the gnats and spiders and your boat will smell great! Seriously!

Thanks for your insight. I will give the peppermint and Green Stuff a try.

Re: Spiders and bugs

I forgot to mention my formula for the peppermint. I use about one teaspoon per 8 Oz of water. I like mine on the strong side so adjust as you see fit.
