Re: Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette!

Amd as long as we're making generalizations; most smokers are also profligate litterers thinking nothing of grinding that butt under their heel on the sidewalk.

It's "nothing" "bio-degradeable" yada yada yada

Some people have an allergy to perfumes or air fresheners. If you and I were in a social situation, out of courtesy I would go perfume-less, but in an anchorage, I hardly think it fair or reasonable to expect me to refrain from wearing my Jovan musk, using air freshener, or refrain from smoking to accommodate a personal health issue.
i am also extremely sensitive to perfumes.i do not wear it. i can use only specific ones so i dont bother. the perfume sensitivity is also inclusive of certain cleaners and soaps.
what someone does on his/her own boat is not my concern unless it affects other folks.
i donot usually noise about it. i generally avoid.
i have sailed with smoker sailors--i move to upwind from the smoke. i have noticed MOST folks who smoke do not have a clue as to wind direction or others. i did not say ALL. i said MOST.
i would expect the folks who sail to know from where the wind blows.

We cruisers are a "live and let live" bunch, aren't we. UNTIL someone else doesn't meet our "live and let live" criteria.

Non-smoker.

A lot of pretty thick hate here.
Is that the only thing you hate that much or does your hate permeate all other areas of your lives like my cigar smoke permeates your pores?

Alright that's it, against my will I'm gettin mean and ugly...I'm gonna have to dig in the ashtray to see if I can find a smokable butt. My apologies for any hostile diatribes.

I reeally hate this habit! Eric

Actually all the people I know who smoke are pretty good about it, but when clean up volunteers come to the beach they say they gather more cigarette butts than anything else. All smokers get blamed for it, I think.

Re: Smoke, Smoke, Smoke that Cigarette !

I'm from western NC the tobacco state where my dad smoked 5 to 6 packs of Camel cig a day and drank about 1.5 gal of ice tea a day and died after 17 heart attacts at 62. I can't stand the tobacco smoke smell. I would definately move up wind of the smokey boat and start playing my banjo or fiddle poorley to keep others far enough away. I think I just being subtle at least I'm not poisoning anyone's air

Well, I might be wrong, but I don't think the non-smokers are putting them there!

It just human nature. All it takes is a few inconsiderate jerks to ruin things for everybody

Re: Smoke, Smoke, Smoke that Cigarette !

I think anchoring too close is a major sin. The hook right on my rode. When we were raising anchor my bow sprit was within 5 feet of him when we finally got to dead lift. I would love to have had a big fat cuban going at that point. He just looked at me blankly wondering what was going on.....The same night a different guy had his genset running until 11pm with enough outside lights for a stadium....to wit....tobacco ain't half the problem out there.
