Hi Folks

Just wanted to tell you a solution to security problems.

We have a companion way thats not square, its 600mm at the top and 500mm at the bottom and curves at the base too.

Most screen door makers will only do square/rectangular.

But we found a smaller company to do it.

The screen is reinforced and many pop rivets added to the surround.

And the air still circulates!!!!!!

Just thought it might help you with security ideas.

I think I can safely answer for Mark, that is just a standard size screen for Darwin flies

Yes, I built one of stainless with small bars. Felt a little like a prison, but on a few occasions I did sleep better knowing it was there!

Padlocks to the standard thru-bolt on the top sliding hatch, but on the inside obviously.

Also just inside we have our new battery operated alarm with sensor pointing out the doorway and the alarm unit visible too.

I just think that the real road to security for international traveling boats is 'passive'. And not over the top. We don't want to live behind bars like we did in Sydney, but at the same time I don't want Nicolle to feel unsafe.
If one hits an intruder with an oar and kills him then we could be in a Thai/Indon (etc) jail for 6 months clearing our name. I am 50 in a month and don't need the hassle.

Do you get false positives from birds / swinging lines / boat motion / wakes / light changes?

I have given this situation some thought in the past, killing an intruder. If it happened to me I would immediatley leave with the body and give it a burial at sea. and never return to that port. Thats if nobody else saw what happened. I know it sounds bad but I wouldn't want to take any chances with my freedom while defending myself against a pirate. Hopefully I will never be in that situation.

I just saw your post and name. Is that your real name? I believe Arch Staton was the name on the grave where the gold was buried in The Good, The Bad,& The Ugly. One of my all time favorite movies. Sorry to get of topic.

No. Not yet, but its still in the testing phase.

I don't know if we should test it while we are sleeping or wait till we leave the boat for the day. Testing while we are sleeping could create a mass of grey hair when it goes off! Its 120dB!!

It is positioned to look level into the cockpit so it doesnt see the waves/water. It doesn't get set off by the flag. Its set back in the companionway a bit so that has a unnel effect. I think the object needs to be quite in front of the companionway for it to go off.
It works THROUGH the screen and its flywire so that must also knock down its range a bit.
