Re: Security Camera Setup

I cant answer your question about a security camera, but i recently found this company that offers a unit that has GPS and a door hatch sensor that works via their own cellular subscription. I think short of a good 24/7 camera, GPS and door sensor would be next best thing. Might be worth reaching out to them and asking if a camera option is in their future as an offering?

I have not used the unit and came across it via a YouTube channel (yacht hunters) mentioning it, so no idea on how good or reliable it is. Looks very promising though.

I installed 2 of their cameras and the home unit. 1 camera in the cockpit, and one inside the salon.(catamaran) They work great. Sends alarms to my phone if human movement is detected. I can talk thru the camera, turn lights on, ect. It's also a great to che k the cameras online, real time.
I believe the newer/pricier ones also have facial recognition.

Re: Security Camera Setup

How about cameras that have ability to produce decent video in driving rain to add to the discussion?

Heavy rain performance will depend on camera placement as much as anything. Once a significant amount of rain starts hitting the lens of the camera, all bets are off as far as how reliably you'll be able to see anything. Having a camera tucked up close under an overhang is probably your best bet for keeping rain off it.

You can turn it on remotely and view what the camera is seeing too. *it will need a Wi-Fi connection*

We use a ring in our cockpit, and we get an alert if anyone boards via our Peplink/Starlink. Battery lasts a good month+.

It came in handy when a mechanic left the Yanmar panel on eventually causing a low voltage alarm. Neighbors heard the alarm, and I was able to walk them through what they needed to do to silence the alarm via the ring camera (two way voice) rather than having to drive to/from the boat.

We pull the battery when we're on the boat. No sense giving Amazon any more video/voice from us.

I haven’t tried td {border: 1px solid #cccccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}Vivint.com, but their cameras are solid and work well with limited power. They have options that might fit your needs without using too much battery.

Was afraid of that and hoping a solution had been created. Thank you
