Would not have mattered if they did. If you don’t go, they just find another
captain. I posted on this sad event at the time it happened and did not get a lot of replies on the forum.
I’ve been co-captain on Bollinger 200’ leg
lift boats...more like sailing. The
captain could have lowered the legs which would have improved stability but would have slowed them way down.
He could have turned back and looked for
work with another company. USCG is not your only source of
weather information out there.
Even with every door tight, legs up is real dangerous. Every
lift boat crew knows that fact. Get it done or get off the
boat.
People die every day for
oil...there is no stopping
consumption.
We live in a sad world.
