Porta Cath/ Infusion Equipment

My wife has a port for infusion and we would need to be able to flush the port while cruising. The doctor does not have a problem with us doing the monthly flush, but we are having a hard time finding the equipment to do the procedure. Huber needles, mainly

Have you tried pharmacies that supply hospitals or companies that are in the hospital supply market (supply non drug items like bags, bandages, IV kits, syringes, etc.)?

I found 2-3 local hospital supply companies in my small town that sold a number of specialty items I wanted for an advanced first aid kit I take cruising.

If you strike out let me know. My daughter is an ER doctor and could probably help out.

call the MD and talk to him. Explain the road block and ask if his office can acquire the tools and ship them to you.

I just googled Huber needles and got hundreds of hits. If you are in a location where you can receive mail order deliveries it seems like online can supply.

Denny,
Where was Diane getting her port flushed before? They should be able to help you out. Also, a lot of times oncology clinics and hospitals don't like the particular needle that comes in the kit and they usually discard it and us a separately packaged one. I don't know what the problem was with the needle but I do know that when I worked in the OR they usually told us not to keep them maybe you could ask them to save some for you. Good luck!

Quite welcome. Hope it works out. If not please let me know as I can always ask my daughter for free medical advice.

Happy cruising.
