Re: OMG I Am Being Eaten Alive!

The problem with Vegemite is people treat it like peanut butter and spread it too thick, it needs to be treated like caviar for the first time.... a little at first and to allow your pallet to adjusts to its strengths.

Hmmmmm, may make a true Aussie of you yet .
Well Seaworthy Lass you are most welcome to visit the savboat anytime and trade a large jar of vegemite for a six pack. I recently and successfully smuggled a huge quantity into USA. I'm guessing those taste treat deprived US dogs didn't recognise my booty as a food group. As if I care.

Look for George Clooney with an Aussie accent in which case it will be either George Clooney rehearsing . . . . . or me.

Best offer I have had since I was single !
Many thanks Savoir xxx. Would take you up on it if we were closer.
I have put in a request to Santa this year for vegemite, so hopefully I won't be suffering much longer.

Re: OMG I Am Being Eaten Alive!

This is what I have learned from living in Mexican jungles for 15 years....
1) Remove all standing water from the area (check eaves troughs, rubbish, everywhere)
2) If you are in one place, add a "pond" like environment with as many guppies as you can find... they will eat mosquito larvae and the females when they come to lay eggs. (further away from your living accomodations)
3) If you can, add bat houses to attract bats to the area.
4) Mosquitoes are attracted to dark clothing - that's why most of the houses in tropical countries start off white inside... Wear white
5) Take lots of Vitamin B and garlic, and yes I agree to start eating local food..
6) Avoid deodorant soaps and some shampoos
7) When bitten I apply some dampened soap to the bite (not deodorant) Takes the itchies out almost immediately.
8) Knowing that mozzies like dark surfaces, you can hang a dark blanket to attract them, then give it a good spray now and again to kill them.
9) Mosquitoes hate classical music. (just kidding)
Good luck, I know how you feel, I was the one they came from miles for, too...

Thanks for all the suggestions. 1-3, I can't really do anything about. 4, I am having a great time shopping for a new wardrobe all in white -- don't tell hubby! Working on 5, 6 is done. 7, I am using Benedryl -- working good for me. 8, going to try this one! 9, hmm ... I'm kind of a rock'n roll type of girl, good thing this one doesn't count!

Re: OMG I Am Being Eaten Alive!

Are you diabetic? they can smell the high blood sugar and will eat a diabetic more than a non dia. Also Amway sells a cleaner that works FANTASTIC on the itch caused by bites it is called " LOC" . It is a 1000 times better than "afterbite" or "windex" or anything else I have tried. The itch is gone instantly and lasts about and hour. But put more on and its gone again.

I works fine when you mix it 1:1 with Jungle Juice, but it still melts plastic watches.

Re: OMG I Am Being Eaten Alive!

Local things work best on local wildlife.
Here's a few tips from around the Med area, assuming you don't have any standing water near you.
Use Citrus scented soap/shower gel.
If you get bitten, dab a little vinegar to take away the itch.
Take a 'yeastvite' tablet every day ,or, eat vegemite, (Marmite is UK equivalent and can be found any shop selling English food supplies).
If possible have gearanium plants nearby.
Obviously use the sprays the locals use, some are more effective than others.
Take gin and tonic liberally, it doesn't do a damn thing for the mossies but you just don't care anymore.

Anybody tried Eco Click? It's from Italy. It makes a piezoelectric spark that supposedly neutralizes the histaminic reaction in the skin.

I smoke cigars and I never get bitten. My wife and son get eaten alive.

lol -
Back in my younger days, the mexican tequilia may have been better than the benedril. Seems the booze never helped much with the buzzing noises though ....

Re: OMG I Am Being Eaten Alive!

Has anyone tried Anti-static dryer sheets (Bounce)?

I've heard if you put a couple in your pockets that the fumes keeps the bugs off.
