Newer 12 ga Flares with older gun?

I was just checking my 12 ga flares and noticed that I will need to replace them soon. After looking at the replacement flares ,I noticed that they are longer than my old ones. The newer guns appear the same and I assume that the new flares will fit the old guns. I looked at Orion's site and couldn't come up with an answer. Anybody have any ideas?

That is a question I am going to have to answer for myself soon too. But I can tell you for sure that the new 12 gauge flares will not fit into the old 25mm gun with the aluminum adapter. They are too long for the adapter.

Orion 12 ga. flares

The new flares now have dual flare bursts. The originals we have been using for years have been single bursts, which required you to fire two shells per 1 minute to count as a single flare. Now - one shell fired counts as a single flare.
The new versions fit all Orion flare pistols made after 1981 according to the manufacturer's information.

Re: Newer 12 ga Flares with older gun?

My new 12 guage flares are longer and they do fit in my old gun.

They guy from CIL at a booth in St. Paul (QC) says no problem. He told me The changed the design to distinguish it from foreign manufacturers.
