Mom8 vs Fixed MOB Pole / Horseshoe etc.

Dear all,
Browsing the net for user reviews on Mom-8 and a fixed set-up but cant seem to find anything. Even when searching this site there is not a lot that pops up. Does anybody have any insights to help me in this choice?

Depends upon how much many you have to spend, and what your goal is.

In my case, I wanted to reduce weight and (more importantly) volume occupied by the thru-transom MOB pole mounted into a 5" pipe inside the hull - I wanted to re-use the space the pipe occupied, so I pulled out the fittings, repaired the hole in the transom, and put a MOM8 on the transom rail.

You need to maintain the MOM8, much like a life raft, and have it inspected on a periodic basis - so the cost is significantly more than a straight MOB pole/strobe/drogue/horseshoe ring.

I made a sunbrella cover for the MOM8 to keep the sun from cooking the materialis inside the box. So far that's worked well.
