Very sad indeed. I went early Sunday morning from Huntington Harbor into the Sound, but fortunately had to be back by 11am for a gathering. It was really blowing hard at 11am. Can't imagine what it would have been like later in the day.

A very important reminder of the dangers close to home. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Another reminder of how a $250 PLB could've changed the outcome from death to life.

Ditto for a handheld DSC VHF.

Indeed, one can never let down your guard no matter how close to help you think you might be. Also shows how communication is so important. Rebel Heart was 900 miles off the coast and the crew was able to be rescued. This fellow just 3 miles away from shore with millions of people and marine rescue resources in a 10 mile radius and did not make it. Very sad and sobering lesson. Wonder if it will ever be known what sunk the boat?

That's what I'm wondering, form what I hear the Wx wasn't good, but shouldn't a 26' boat have handled it?

It sure would have been pretty cold and rough that day. I'm thinking beginning of the season on the first sail after leaving the yard perhaps a hose came off a seacock in those pounding conditions. By the time he noticed the water in all the noise and confused pounding it was to late to find the cause. Hope Salt Monkey is right and they do dive on the boat once they find it.
