Long Distance ER

First assuming you are very well equipped as far as medical supplies and have a SAT phone and/or SSB.....if you are out in the middle of nowhere who can you call to help walk you through a medical emergency.
How to equip you medical supplies is another issue (I just stuck my thumb in a bandsaw and learned about "steri-strips" and other such alternatives to stitches).

Re: long distance ER

My doctor gave us her cell number and wants us to call her if there are any problems. She's been our family doctor for years and at minimum she can give us quick information and size up a problem as best she can. I'm an expired emt with a current first-aid/cpr and am a divemaster so some stuff I feel comfortable handling or at least stabilizing, but of course I might be the guy banged up.

All of the medical evacuation insurance places I've seen are borderline scams with nary a happy customer to be found.

Re: Long Distance ER

For French yachts, just contact the "Centre de Consultations Médicales Maritimes" (marine medical advice center), Purpan hospital in Toulouse, phone +33 534 393 333 (also available through Inmarsat), email: ccmm@chu-toulouse.fr . You will be put in contact with a doctor.

Long-range rescue would be organized by Gris-Nez MRCC, MMSI: 00 227 5100, email: gris-nez@mrccfr.eu
