Exactly! And this is why many of us who have sailed extensively have become more selective in our cruising options. If cruising is a means to personal fulfillment and not an exercise in self defense combat techniques and personal protection, then why expose yourself unnecessarily to the potentially ugly side of human existence when other options are available? This is especially true as we age and shed the rose colored glasses of youth and innocence. Why not patronize those communities worldwide who seek to offer a respect of civilization and humanity and appreciate the dollars and the interpersonal cultural exchanges that cruisers provide. Unfortunately, some naturally beautiful places in the world do not offer the safety and security necessary for a peaceful experience and unless one is imbued with an "Outward Bound" and "Mixed Martial Arts" mentality of cruising, we should vote with our dollars and support those communities worldwide that appreciate the visitation of equally civilized people.
