Re: Life Raft Brand?

I have a winslow superlite ocean so that my wife can lift it if need be. But whichever you get, go to a boat show if possible to get a good discount. I got a major discount from winslow at the annapolis show

Re: Life Raft Brand?

Would you know what happened to the Givens ( Givens Marine Survival Company: Manufacturers of the World's Finest Life Rafts )
The web site is still on, but phone and e-mail are disconnected.
It is strange, as Given supposedly manufactured the best life-rafts.

Re: Life Raft Brand?

Can I ask a question?

We've been looking at the Portland Pudgy | Unsinkable Liferaft | Sailing Dinghy | Yacht Tender-- which is a dinghy and also a certified liferaft. The design looks interesting.

Anyone have reviews, suggestions, horror stories about these as a dinghy - or more importantly, liferaft?

Thanks,
Octopussy

Re: Life Raft Brand?

That's the best place to ask the questions. (IMHO)

I never been close enough to one. Interesting concept. I would like to hear opinion of the owners.
Perhaps, being "all", is not good on "either one".
Price is definitely something to consider, in "platinum" version reaches over $7000.
Just imagine of it would get snatched off your boat. You would loose ding, sailboat and the raft.
During passage at open sea you would like to keep it in "life-raft mode", therefore it would bring considerable weight on the davits.
If you keep it on the deck, I am afraid, assembling life raft components in violent sea wouldn't be easy task.
Still, like to hear honest opinion of someone who has first hand experience.
