Re: Is it just me or this is a terrible idea?

I would think it's a bad idea but not everyone is concerned with safety or is able to think this stuff through.

since 1990 when i first moved aboard i have saved my life many times merely by checking with bubble stuff when i change tanks.
anyone saying NEVER or ALWAYS loses argument as those extremes donot exist.

Zee checking for leaks when changing tanks is just proper procedure.
It is one of the more important little things you can do to be safe.

I've been a few short for so long I don't remember where I lost them ( probably a little at a time over a few decades.

Are you really sure of that? I've seen these were the windlass mounting is just an arch. How else are you going to clean the chain locker, secure the end, and knock over the pile? Additionally, now the propane has another compartment to fill (the hause pipe is hardly gas-tight.

No, I think the compartment we are looking at is the chain locker and you simply arn't seeing the chain.

Regulator leaks are reasonable common. You've been lucky.

Re: Is it just me or this is a terrible idea?

I must say that for all the concern here, sestina's post is the first one that mentioned an actual (rather than imaginary) problem with this type of installation.

Also, odd that we haven't heard about all the Najad's and other Scandinavian boats having trouble if the the installation type is a problem.

Just sayin'.
