You asked "what is required" the short answer is nothing is required...and at the end of the day we do make our own decisions but how could you make a good decision if all your info is based on an erroneous question .ie what is required? nothing is required..sorry if you think that a suggestion to not eat peeled fruit is useless info. after all the person that peeled it most likely washed his hands after he went behind a tree and took a pee and chances are he hasnt got hepatitus a,b,c,or d or any other problems so there again nothing is "required"...just "sharing information" ...DVC

Re: Innoculations for Caribbean ?
We are just going to the Bahamas but we still had all of our travel shots, just because we feel better knowing we are protected. As far as the flu shot goes, always have it and have never had any issues or the flu...wonderful stuff! Its all a personal decision so if you feel better having the shots then do it and if not just know the risks for where you are going and be wise. To each his own I always say, I like my way and you like yours....works for most!

There are some vaccines for cholera, although not universally available and not universally effective against all strains.

No where that we've been in either side of the Caribbean, or the Bahamas for that matter, ever asked about inoculations. I would say that for practical purposes, nothing is "required".
I would still take the basics, as well as all of the precautions one takes when visiting any third world country.
If you spend time up the beautiful Rio Dulce in Guatemalla, it is customary to de-worm yourself on departure or every 6 months, if you get stuck in the mud there. (This is a long series of pills).

You never know what can be in those flu shots.....buyer beware. Better off using your bodies natural immunities.

Re: Innoculations for Caribbean ?
We were not required to have anything when we headed to the Bahamas. Left before the flue vaccine was available. I managed to acquire the flue, with a complication. Nearly had to return home I was so ill. Happily was able to keep going.
We all need to make our own decisions and live with the consequences.
