Health Insurance questions - cost/options?

Hello. I am not currently living aboard a vessel, nor will be anytime soon. Though the life intrigues me. I still have a ton of Newbie questions. One that seems to be of special interest to myself (having hit the 1/2 century mark) is what do people do for Health Insurance while cruising? If I was in the Continental USA I believe this would easy to answer, but what about people that cruise to Caribbean, Med, globally? From a few online Youtubers it seems like most pay out of pocket for services in Foreign Countries. Most comment that it's reasonably priced. I was watching Tubes on Costa Rica (I was thinking about moving there after retirement), and you can purchase Health Care there for a few hundred dollars per year.

I can see paying out of pocket for minor aliments, but what about major issues - broken bones, cuts/lacerations, dare I say Heart Attack, etc...

Is the a Health Care Company that will insure a Worldwide Cruiser?

Thanks

Re: Health Insurance questions - cost/options?

Once you have decided you want to have Health insurance coverage (indeed some people don't), then typically you'd go with an expat type insurance company.
There are tons of them: Cigna, IMG, MSH, Azimuth, Seven corner, Aetna, Allianz, etc, etc ...
All have multiple plans, covering different things and requirements/expectations.

It is not a very simple process, especially if you know you'll get back to the US for a small time every year.

Which country?

IMG is what I use for US resident employees outside of the US.

In general, outside the USA, you will find healthcare and thus health insurance to be quite affordable. Many plans offer non-USA coverage at much lower rates than plans that include the USA.

Also look at high deductable/catastrophic plans which only cover major medical expenses.

Could then get a policy that excludes US cover, and if cover for those short trips is desired, use a good short-term traveller policy, maybe even one with evac back to more civilized "home" if disaster strikes.

Re: Health Insurance questions - cost/options?

This is a question that comes up on occasion here. A bit of search may provide some answers.

As for us I am 74 and we can not get insurance outside of the USA - way to expensive and we pay as we go. A couple of days ago I saw a great dermatologist and got an appointment right away for about $250usd and she did a complete body exam from the top of my head to my toes - cut off a few things with nitrogen and gave me a rx for some cream for a couple of issues - a great and compete exam -

In Turkey it was even less expensive - in Tunisia I had 2 screws put in my shoulder for about 1500USD -
