Gill Foul Weather Gear Sizing

I need to buy a jacket and pants for this coming racing season. I'm 6', 39" jacket, 30" waist and 32" inseam.

Does the Gill stuff run true, small or large? Also, any opinions on what i should get?

Sterling,

I bought Gill foulies about eight years ago. Probably the equivalent of the "Offshore" variety they're offering now. I'm about your size, and the Large fits me very well. My set is sized so you can wear a heavy sweater or fleece under it without feeling constricted.

We Gill.

We both have Goretex.

Goretex is vastly (IMHO) over rated. I preferred the old MPX non breathable for passage making but you can'y buy it anymore.. maybe from a commercail fishing chandler?

I find water and cold clammy feel gets inside Goretex where is doesnt with non breathable.

And on passage I dont do enough work to ever bust a sweat!

Mark

Gill

I find it runs large. I bought a new jacket in the fall and I could have gone a size smaller. Not the end of the world, but not how I'd like it to be.

Personally, it's the last mail-order jacket I will buy. Just too much hassle to have the wrong size.

For buoy-racing, I'd consider dinghy gear. The most comfortable people in the crew I ran with wore dinghy smocks and the like. The freedom of motion is a lot better.

I agree with Penumbra. It would be best to be able to try them on.

This is a good question to ask. You are just a bit smaller than I am. My Mustang float jacket in a large is just a bit small (especially in the sleeve length) and my large West Marine fouly jacket is just right. My extra large Columbia jacket is a bit too large unless I'm wearing a sweater under.

regards,

JohnL
