Termination of 121.5/243 MHz Service:
In October 2006 the Cospas-Sarsat Council confirmed that satellite processing of 121.5/243 MHz beacons will terminate on 1 February 2009. Beginning in 2009, only 406 MHz beacons will be detected by the Cospas-Sarsat satellite system. This affects all maritime beacons (EPIRBs), all aviation beacons (ELTs) and all personal beacons (PLBs). Goto: 121.5 Phase-Out

$300 seems to be the going rate here in San Diego for a 406 battery replacement. Looks like another $1000-$1500 to have the liferaft repacked. Wow this is starting to hurt.
