Any Tricare cruisers?

I was wondering if any retirees are using tricare as their primary insurance?

Re: Any Tricare cruisers?

Scottyboy,

I use my Tricare and Delta dental but I must confess I have not used them abroad. Thank you for reminding me to look into the coverage outside the U.S. (not including military bases).

Re: Any Tricare cruisers?

Scottyboy,

Scottyboy,

Here is a exerpt from the tricare site, it looks like if you are traveling you may have to opt for additions to your coverage.
Getting Care When Traveling

You are covered while traveling on business, vacation or when you are moving from one location to another. We recommend that you get any routine care before you travel. How you get care when you're traveling depends on your TRICARE plan and where you are going.

Emergency Care

If you have an emergency, go to the nearest emergency room. In some cases, you may need to pay up front and file a claim for reimbursement. Remember to keep all receipts and file claims in the region where you live, not where you get the care.
All Other Types of Care

TRICARE Prime Options

TRICARE Prime, TRICARE Prime Remote, TRICARE Prime Overseas, TRICARE Prime Remote Overseas, TRICARE Young Adult-Prime Option
  • You must have a referral from your primary care manager (PCM) for urgent care.
  • If you go to an emergency room, contact your PCM or regional contractor as soon as possible after you receive emergency care.
  • Routine care is not authorized.
TRICARE Standard Options

TRICARE Standard and Extra, TRICARE Standard Overseas, TRICARE Young Adult-Standard Option
  • You may visit any TRICARE-authorized provider.
  • You'll save money if you find a network provider.
  • If traveling overseas, you may visit any overseas provider.
Reserve Component Purchased Care Options

TRICARE Reserve Select, TRICARE Retired Reserve
  • You may visit any TRICARE-authorized provider.
  • You'll save money if you find a network provider.
  • If traveling overseas, you may visit any overseas provider.
TRICARE For Life
  • You may visit any Medicare provider for care.
  • If traveling overseas, (in locations other than U.S. Territories), TRICARE becomes the primary payer.
  • You'll file claims with the overseas claims processor instead of the TFL contractor.
US Family Health Plan

Including the TRICARE Young Adult-Prime option when you select the US Family Health Plan.
  • You must coordinate all care with your designated provider.
