AIS SART Alarm

Hello all,

We have a Safelink R10 for each of us on board that we wear at all times.
My only issue with these has been some sort of alarm sounding if the MOB sets the thing off. Otherwise by the time you wake up for you watch (for example) you might have moved out of range.

Been searching again today and have just seen this from Digital Yachts which sounds perfect..

Digital Yacht - Light Years Ahead

Basically the unit is on the lookout for an AIS SART going off. If it detects one it sounds a loud alarm.

Not sure if the unit is out yet but I plan to pick one up and install before our ARC crossing.

Of course I'm well aware that the best thing is to stay on the boat but this has been a missing part of the puzzle for me for a while so I wanted to report it as I hadn't seen it mentioned here.

(I don't work for either company by the way).

Regards,
Simon

Re: AIS SART Alarm

Yep. I'll be adding it for sure.

I know nothing beats staying on the boat but we have the R10's on our life vests that auto start the devices when they inflate.

The idea being that if someone goes in the water.. the life vest inflates, the R10 AIS SART switches on and a loud alarm sounds all automatically.

It then shows the location on our plotter which should aid recovery.

Hopefully never have to use any of this of course.

Re: AIS SART Alarm

Have you checked them with your plotter Simon? Our r10's activate the mob on the Raymarine plotter and sound a loud alarm from the plotter. Unfortunately tHe new Raymarine plotters don't have an external alarm connection so it's not loud in the cabin. Try test it by actually pulling the cover off as I don't think the alarm will sound in test mode.

Re: AIS SART Alarm

We have a b&b Zeus t8 which is meant to work with the r10s.

Even if it has an alarm I'm after something loud in the saloon that wakes me if I'm asleep off watch, or vice versa.
