41' Searay Stolen from Downtown Kingston Marina

A 41' powerboat was stolen from its slip at Confederation Basin, Kingston.
This is a marina in the heart of downtown, in the busy tourist district.

Boat stolen from slip | The Kingston Whig-Standard

This is my home marina, where I keep my boat (recently sold).

Being September, the boat was likely sitting unused, as most boat are at this time of year. Confed has dock staff and security, however after labour day their hours are reduced, mostly just 4-8pm weekdays. There is a security gate to gain access to the docks, but it is easy enough to climb around it without much effort (even for me).

I thought this would be of interest to the CF.

It makes me wonder, how do you hide a stolen boat? It would be easy enough for the police to check all nearby marina's. And it must come out of the water soon...that means a crane or really big truck and ramp.

I'm sure there is more to the story.

Pretty amazing. Hauling drugs somewhere? I agree, hard to hide an elephant. If it is noted as stolen & stops for fuel anywhere, (which it must) - seems like it would be easy to spot.

I was thinking Kingston, Jamaica and what stupidity it would be to have an expensive boat there without armed guards 24/7. Then I realized it could be Kingston Ontario...?

I understand a certain "medicinal herb" is readily available in Ontario, but not so in the country just across a lake from there. That looks like a nice fast boat to do a run across the border with a large quantity of herbaceous matter.

I'd suspect that the boat was scuttled once the delivery was completed. .

I think there's easier ways to get drugs across the border here.
Its a land locked lake. A 41' boat is pretty easy to see from the air. If it were scuttled, I would expect a pretty big slick from the fuel and oil on board.

The whole thing makes no sense. But I suppose when drugs are involved, good sense goes out the door.

Just so everyone is on the same page...

NOT Kingston Jamaica

It IS Kingston Ontario Canada, on the NE corner of Lake Ontario where it meets the St Lawrence River.

Nobody in his right mind would run drugs in a 41' Sea Ray out of Kingston. The cargo of choice in that region is cheap US cigarettes and they head north across the river in small fast boats, fuel costs in a big boat on open water would kill the bottom line.

It is kind of odd to have a boat that size stolen in a closed system. Insurance job by the owner?

That's the general consensus among the boaters I have spoken to in the area.

Yes, unless something has changed, the local smuggling route is Clayton to Quebec Head. Once on Wolfe Island, you're home free and can take the ferry the rest of the way, a big power boat like that would offer way too much exposure compared to a 5 minute crossing in an open boat moving at 40 knots.

Investigators are considering the possibility that the Arda T was removed from the water and trailered away.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Cameron Gough at 613-549-4660, ext. 6273, or at cgough@kpf.ca.

Interesting. Where's the boat ramp that can handle a 41' boat near Kingston? Loyalist Cove is the best spot I can think of. That's a perfect spot for trailering out a big boat like that. Here's a pic of the tie up wall for the boat ramp in Bath.

Re: 41' Searay Stolen from Downtown Kingston Marina

While my vote is for the insurance job...

It's a searay. Hide it in plain sight. They all look the same. If you can get the name off the transome, not much to set it apart.

Reality is there are enough ports within a days run, if you have a buddy with a haul out and a trailer, it could be in a pole barn anywherein a 200-400mile radius including two countries within 24 hrs. At that point, you could probably part it out.

But again the insurance deal is a whole lot more plausible. Bust a thru hull 20 miles out go back in a buddies boat and report it stolen the next day.
