Santa (wife) was good to me. I am getting a Windows 8 based tablet/laptop. I am looking for suggestions for simple and inexpensive nav
software.
I currently have a
Garmin 740s chart plotter that works just fine. My goal is to have a backup system and portability (trip planning at home).
My cruising area is the
Washington,
British Columbia and Southeast
Alaska inside
passage.
I do not need to display anything other than my position on a chart: I have no need to connect any external devices - no
autopilot,
engine gauges,
wind instruments etc...
I have a dry, heated pilothouse and a place to use a conventional mouse if necessary.
I have checked out the
OpenCPN website and that looks promising. Thanks for any recommendations.
