Virtual Port Madness

I'm trying to install MaxSea TZ v 2.04 over virtual ports created by NavMonPC. The application doesn't recognize any of the ports. There has been some discussion about this issue in the past but I do not recall any constructive conclusion.
This is what I've tried so far:
- I created the ports with NavMonPC (Franson Tools).
- I used full GpsGate instead of the Serial Port tools which came with NavMonPC.
- I created fake Com ports (with ? mark) in Device Manager to reserve port numbers for MXTZ.
- I forced MXTZ to think the port is a USB virtual port.

None of the methods gave me any positive results, I really would like to use NavMonPC which perfectly fits the rest of my configuration.
The platform is Win XP-32 SP3 and the "input" com ports are not really physical - they have been created with DigiInternational RealPort.

I would appreciate any constructive comments and suggestions.
