Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

As you can see on the screen-shot your boat was in "fix-heading" mode (loxo). It's means that the last WP of your route had a "Heading-to-follow" instruction. This is the default behavior of the route module, which you can change in the options.

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Yes, I see now, the Autopilot was kicked out of VBVMG and it did just continue on a constant course. The other Routes and Routings (were simply that) the boat was not following them and I deleted these out of date items. Thankyou..

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

External grib data and routing only work for you if they happen to coincide with whatever the VR interface delivers. They have their own algo for calculating the outcome of your boat in any given wx.

So the question is what data is used by the VR interface.

It is going to be a great race, as ever.

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Barnakiel, Which race -Virtual or Real? or is it both? Thanks for the tip, Maitai has mentioned this too. Also today I've been noticing differences between qtVLM optimal route and the one plotted by VLM when under their algorithm, it shows up as a gradual offset, I think.

Hey, this is the way sailing is, can be imprecise, but you'd better be very precise at certain times! I think I am going to be clobbered by reading and forecast of weather, as I haven't got the tools down yet, even.

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

It appears that from qtVLM we are able to add up to 6 waypoints to the Autopilot on an optimized route.

These waypoints can then be found in Login to the website Virtual Loup-De-Mer then selecting the boat and choosing "Pilot Instructions" "Scheduled Events" and we can see and modify what has been sent to the server and what WP and headings the boat is using. We can also change between VBVMG and VMG etc.

I have yet to be able to get to similar information in the qtVLM Autopilot, for some reason I click on "Autopilot" and nothing happens. Also I can't change from VBVMG to VMG in Autopilot, nothing happens when I click on VMG for example. Do these work only under certain circumstances?

Also do you normally only modify WP and directions from within Pilototo using the "Scheduled Events" button?
I am sure it is just my understanding of how things work that is causing this.

Thanks, Rick

PS Once I am in the Route / Autopilot Tab and then Load and Send the WP's the Autopilot Tab goes blank. Is this correct?

Rick,

In the boat option you have probably lock the dashBoard commands.

Boat Settings->select your boat and uncheck "Lock Settings" and all is going to be much better

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Yes, Maitai. I just unchecked "Lock Settings".

Right now I am puzzling why the Race Recorder did not record Nell as Finished.
So now I am headed back to the finish wondering why?
Can you tell what happened from this picture? What I did wrong?

Also, throughout the race I was having trouble keeping the boat on a series of waypoints that had been uploaded to the Pilototo via qtVLM Autopilot. It does not seem to follow the waypoints exactly and sometimes goes off track. What do you think I am doing? -

One time I had it on VMG rather than VBVMG perhaps that was why the boat just cointinued on the course of the first leg.

Thanks

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Okay, now I've crossed the line a second time and it still lists Nell under racing and does not list Nell under finished!

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Most probably you have missed a gate somewhere in the way... so the finish line cannot be validated.

As for the boat not following the route, each time there is an update of grib in VLM your route is not precise anymore. Since this it happening every 6 hours there is a big chance you were sleeping at one point

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Maitai, Boat / Uncheck "Lock settings" is much better. The boat finally showed up on the Finished list after crossing the line a third time, and the race disappeared with all Race WP, tracks and boats going blank.

I think this delay may have something to do with the heartbeat "crank" but it seemed to span a number of those.

If I want the boat to end up at a certain point, while I sleep or am away, I would think that VBVMG and VMG with waypoints should do that. The boat was acting up for some reason. Was the "Lock settings" the problem?

Thanks.

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

I don't know for sure what you did that caused that. Maybe the lock was the problem.

In practice people are preparing their route a bit differently if they know they will miss a meteo update (for instance they won't take the risk to sail to close from rocks, or they will take some security distance to cut a gate).. If you don't miss a meteo update and download a fresh grib each time, then the route is 100% accurate (maybe not the best, but what it shows is what the boat will do).

The good news is that you still have 22h and 22mn to continue training
