Tide Charts for Pacific Northwest
We are going cruising in the San Juans and heading north this summer and wondering the best way to read tides and currents. We will have a 2003 Raymarine chart plotter,(C maps), a PC and an iPad4 on board. Go paper or electronics? The iPad does not have the GPS chip.

Re: Tide Charts for Pacific Northwest
Just an FYI, most of the local (paper) phone books have a tide chart in them and can be found in marinas and stores. Can be handy to have something quick to look at.

Re: Tide Charts for Pacific Northwest
There are Tide and Current apps for smart phones, tablets and laptops. Otherwise, pick up an old fashioned paper Tide and Current book at the local boating store after you get there or get one through Amazon before you go.

Re: Tide Charts for Pacific Northwest
Get a copy of the Canadian Hydrographic Service Current Atlas and a copy of Murrays tables.
You might also use OpenCPN in your PC.

Re: Tide Charts for Pacific Northwest
I used the tideApp app while living in the PNW, and had a little paper booklet as a backup. I got my tide books free from the marina we were berthed at, but the local stores sold copies cheap as well.

Captains Tide Charts. Everywhere for cheap or free. For smart phone or tablet I'm using iNavx with AyeTides.

I have OpenCPN on the PC, but I don't have the Canadian charts only US NOAA charts. Do you know where I can get them?

This site has the information you need. Click on how to purchase and it will show you the vendors in your area. Oh yeah, the bad news. Canadian charts are not free.

Re: Tide Charts for Pacific Northwest
How far north are you headed?
The chart books for the Gulf Islands (3313) and Desolation Sound (3312) are a less expensive way to go. They also have the relevant sections from Sailing Directions.
