Tampa to Key West

I'll be taking my 30' power boat from Tampa to Key West in a couple months. Does anyone know a good 1/2 way point to stop at? Also any advice on what areas to stay away from or the best way to navigate into Key West Harbor?

If your staying onboard, Id stay in Cayo Costa/ Pelican bay, great day stop safe and protected, dont think theres power at the slip but a great beautiful place. In KW make sure to stay within the markers at the NW channel entrance to avoid shoals. Are you staying in a marina in KW or on the hook?

If you anchor off Shark River, stay well a way from the shore. Between the skeeters and the HUGE black flies, I thought we were under attack.
