I am thinking that if you must rely on electronics to use your sextant then why not just sell your sextant a buy a handful of GPSs ? Would you rather have a $600 sextant or six handheld GPS ?
Just learning to use a sextant and looking for a method to ensure my calculations are in the ballpark. I have four methods of determining my position with GPS on board already. Im expanding my horizons and my knowledge base.
I used "Celestial" for my iPhone/iPad to check accuracy when practicing with a sextant. By Navimatics. Also helped me find silly errors in my calculations when working through the forms.
Merlin II software on a Sharp handheld computer. Makes star sights the easiest and most accurate way of fixing a position in about 4 minutes.
