Sextant question
I purchased a sestrel sextant from India on advise I received here, just starting out to learn. The eye cup is toast. Pretty much disintegrated. Can I replace this piece with any eyecup that will fit? Is it more complicated than that? Thank you all so much in advance for your insight. I want it to be as closed to perrr fee ext as possible.

Re: Sextant question
What make and model did you get?
The ones from India are from ship breakers and have probably been sitting unused for 30yr. It will need to be cleaned and oiled at a couple points probably. The existing oil will have gone gummy and you don’t want to force them.
I just got a Sno-T from there and will be cleaning it up before long.
What sight reduction system do you use or are you still figuring this out?

It only says sestrel on it with one set of numbers
01473. So far I cannot find any particular information on it. But it seem to move freely and far as a tune. I’m at the very beginning of learning. I will check the mirrors next. Thank you

Re: Sextant question
Once COVID abates some I would be happy to help you learn some. I’m in San Diego.

I'm sure someone on NavList will reply to your post there soon, too. It takes a while sometimes for replies to show up, but you won't find a more knowledgeable and helpful crowd.

That’s good to know.. I was thinking that a response on nav list was not going to come. I’ll be more patient. Thank you!

Re: Sextant question
I don't think you really need an eyecup.
