SeaClear and CM-93

Can anyone tell me whether Seaclear is compatible with the CM-93 chart software please?

If you mean the original CM93 . . . . then regretfully NO. They don't work. Shame, I have 23,000 odd chart files covering the whole world. Probably as well as they are outdated and not being updated anymore. None of the current new software/equipment supports them. They will work with Maxsea 10.

My little Asus Eee PC 900 with Maxsea/CM93:

I've now switched to Seaclear II and have found a number of people producing charts at very low cost. I have found most of Europe and The Gulf of Mexico, icluding all the Caribbean Islands, florida and most of the ajoining coastline. If you want more info, just YELL!

Here is a link to NOAA for free charts.
RNC Downloads

Here is an excellent tutorial on SeaClear II along with link to download SeaClear.

Boating and Sailing in Maine

What I did was create a new folder in C drive and downloaded the charts to it then using MapCaL II to find the charts and enter them in SeaClear.

Hi, G4MJW... Thanks for the heads up about charts that are compatable with SeaClear. Who are the sources for those charts? I need to find charts compatable with SeaClear for the Sea of Cortez and Mexico, for a friend to use in cruising down there. Thanks a lot for your help in this.

Hi SoutherDrawl,

I got my European charts from here:

Nautical Charts

He also has Caribbean charts but not sure if he has the Pacific side of Mexico. Try emailing. He's adding new charts all the time. Otherwise it is easy to make your own. There is a utility program that comes with Seaclear which allows you to calibrate your own charts/maps.

Thanks for the info Steve it is much appreciated.

OpenCPN as recently add CM93 chart support. I tried it on a Windows system and it mostly works. It does seem to have a problem connecting charts across the dateline. I've tried to contact the developer about this bug, but he has not yet responded. Hopefully, he will get this fixed and we will have a charting program with world coverage for both Windows and Linux.

The newly updated version of opencpn now supposedly supports CM93 charts. See the thread just below for opencpn, which is a free navigation program that handles BSB, ENC, and CM93 charts. Unfortunately I don't have a copy of the CM93 charts (although I'd love to know where to download them), but I can vouch for opencpn working well with the free NOAA BSB and ENC charts. So far I'm finding opencpn to be vastly easier and more intuitive than SeaClear.

I've just downloaded and run OpenCPN for the first time. I have the whole world in CM93 charts (all 23,000+ of them). I'm quite impressed. Took a while to discover how to turn on the text but the screen is starting to look quite pretty! For some reason there is sometimes a delay in joining adjacent charts. Sometimes it's instant, sometimes a few seconds, sometimes there's blank spaces around the screen. In general, it appears to be working quite well.

Thumbs up How do you turn on the text for OpenCPN??

Hi, G4MJW-- Now that you've discovered how, would you share with us how to turn on the text for this chart plotter. I'd like to use this one a while, but don't have the intuitive knowledge about software that I need. SeaClear II seems to be easier to use after I've spent time exploring the pull-down menus.
Thanks a lot in advance for clueing me in on this.

Opencpn text

For SouthernDrawl...

As you no doubt have discovered by experimentation, text for vector charts (cm93 and S57 ENC) is enabled by the tool button marked "T". Various text display options are found under Settings->VectorCharts.

Good Luck

Wink CM93 charts

I have a CM93 file that is 1GB+ that seems to cover most of the world except the pacific. I suspect that the charts are mid 90s vintage. Contact me.
