Re: Schooner Nina - MERGED 3 THREADS
I fully appreciate it is tough but to refer to any one lost or lost completely as a body to me is insensitive. A body is nearly always someone else's "somebody". Having served i know how it is to lose family and friends; this should be a place for solace and help. I am also sure you appreciate that if the crew are lost that they passed doing something they were passionate about either through force major or otherwise. Until there is anything concrete there is always hope. That hope is what makes us human. I would love them and niña to return to port.

Only my two cents worth,
The Prevailing winds down here are West to East, I think you might be better off searching to the East of NZ, Instead of the Tasman,

Re: Schooner Nina - MERGED 3 THREADS
To be sure for anyone who has ever worried about a loved one, every worst case scenario has played out in your head, but hope is the other side of that coin, there are many more stories more impossible that have ended happily, there are far more extreme survival at sea stories to give up hope now, you can't decide for others how to spend their money , if I choose to pitch in for a search, and so do others it's their choice to make , if others do not that is also their choice.
These were fine , experienced sailors, but you can't "educate the sea"
Also This was on the NZ news today

Donna Petsinger 8:44am Jul 21 Part of a CF post by Cherie; TES has some money that is most likely for the Nina search, but there was no memo. Those monies will be on hold until clarified to me Nina's.

Re: Schooner Nina - MERGED 3 THREADS
I find it hard to believe Equusearch claims that New Zealand SAR has been less than helpful! I could imagine that they would have wanted to pass on only the best and most accurate information thay had which might have taken some time to collate and transmit.

Re: Schooner Nina - MERGED 3 THREADS
People need to back off this thread if they have not got important information or relevant information. CF can help people in many ways and so it should. I would say thousands would be reading this which gives a higher chance for survival those at sea deserve it. If you want to gossip do it on the right thread with all respect to humanity.

Re: Schooner Nina - MERGED 3 THREADS
Click on the user name and you get a drop dow menu. The last option on the menu is to ignore all that user's posts. Feel free to use this on anyone you wish.
For the rest, remember, if you use the quote button, that quote will show even for people that have them on ignore, so try to NOT quote things you think might be offensive to others.
Also, the little red tirangle at the lower left of a post is to report TOS violations. According to the rules, that includes rude behavior. The mods all get a copy.

Re: Schooner Nina - MERGED 3 THREADS
I only had VHF and a cell phone, and my laptop with a wi-fi connection, Small Thingy I hung out the top of the cabin,
Maximum range on all of them was about 12 miles offshore, After that, I had nothing,
I am following this thread, because I was reported as missing, Even tho I wasnt missing, I was just over due,
The thing was in my case, They were looking miles away from where I was, In the wrong direction as well.
This was from Not asking the right questions from the person making the missing person report,
The person making the report had my last position written down on paper, X four times, and also the two island names that I was parked at last,
I was very insistant that they write my last position down, But to no avail, I found out later,
The search person did not ask for the positions, and the person giving them was not a sea Fairing person, so the real information for where I was, was not passed on,
They had No Hope in Hell of finding me, I sailed into Bundaberg two days later,
So you really need to go over all The info very closely, Sort the fact from the fiction,
Epirb,
Depending on where you are in the world, Some people push the big red button if they get a splinter in their finger,
Others, press the big red button as they step of the top of the mast,
I hope the Nina and crew are like that, The Epirb is the last ditch effort, If not dead, They are still out there in a very battered boat,
Keep looking, There is always hope,

Mr b, maybe if you had a SSB you could have contacted your concerned friends and relatives as to your well being and avoided a potential expensive SAR which might have put others at risk. You approach is somewhat foolhardy and selfish. Using VHF at sea miles from land and contacting a nearby vessel to relay your situation is another option

Re: Schooner Nina - MERGED 3 THREADS
I am not Foolhardy, Selfish or Stupid, I dont want SSB or any thing else,
When I say 10 days minimum to get some where, Thats 10 days minimum, It may take me another week or so after that mimimum 10 days,
I stand on my own two feet, I dont need or want a crowd, to hold my hand,
Especially from people who dont sail, Like my friend who reported me missing,
